About me...

My name is Donny Stevens. I am a graduate of Crossville High School in 1988. I had the honor of being a part of the most successful 3 year span in Crossville Football History from 1985-1987. I lettered 3 years and was named to All-DeKalb Co. Football Team as a Defensive Tackle in 1987. What's even more important, I played with a Senior Class that had a combined record of 39-3 and a 3-A State Championship in 1986. Many players that have traveled through CHS have been better, but NONE LOVED IT MORE.  I am humbled to be part of a rich tradition. I owe everything to my teammates. We were a band of brothers. No matter what the situation, we pulled for each other, we overcame any adversity, and stood tall. My teammates don't have a ring because of me, I have one because of them.

In November 1987, on a cold, miserable night, I played my last game for the Crossville Lions. We played very tough against one of best teams in the state, against Oneonta. My career ended against the Redskins that night. Loosing was bad, but to know that I would never play for Crossville High again, would haunt me to this day, 20 years later. Although It was my last game, I will never admit defeat. We just ran out of time. I thank GOD above, for the times I spent with all of you. It was the best.

I am proud for the fact that we took the 1987 State runner-up to the end, returning only 3 starters from the championship team. I honestly believe that we did the best for Crossville that we could. We have NOTHING to be ashamed of.

I love all the guys I played with. You are all an inspiration. I regret nothing. We did our best with what we had.

To the guys I played with... Thanks for letting me be a part of the team. I have a ring because of you. Though we can never go back again, for all that were there in 1986, a reminder is never further than your hand. GOD BLESS ALL. GOD BLESS CROSSVILLE HIGH !!!!

MY HEROES .... These are some of my sports heroes.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=PGAYqS2TMGo

Earl Campbell- Houston Oilers 1978-1984. He is the very reason I fell in love with football. I still have a Rawlings Earl Campbell football in the box from 1979. Earl was a class act all the way. I think he was THE greatest running back in NFL history. For such a short career, he caused more havoc than anyone I have seen since. The shear violence in which he dished out while running the ball, will never be erased from my memory. GOD bless you Earl.

John Hannah- New England Patriots-1973-1986. Most would think that I would like John because he was a former Alabama player. It was mainly because he lived only about a 1/3 of a mile from my home. I like John because, he came an used to just hang out with me and my dad when I was a kid during the late 70's during the off-seasons. One year, I was very sick around Christmas. I don't know how he found out, but a few days before Christmas, a package arrived in the mail. Neither of my parents knew what it was. It was to be opened on Christmas morning. It was a autographed team ball from the entire Patriots team. I still haven't forgot about that. Awesome man.

Tony Twist- St. Louis Blues/Quebec Nordiques/St. Louis Blues- I am a tremendous hockey fan. I like the old school game, when players stand up for their teammates. Tony Twist was with out a doubt the toughest player in the 90's. Many bones were broken by "The Twister". He never backed down from a scrap and  was the last few years of his career, the most feared player in the NHL. Thanks Tony for the memories,  for bringing  a blue collar work ethic every night and for standing up for your team and being a true team player.
