Crossville Tops Bulldogs on last second tally

Crossville- Crossville's Jerry Davis hauled in two touchdown passes from Quarterback Ronny Shirey, the second for the winning score with just  12 seconds to go in the game, as the Lions squeezed out a 20-15 victory over Geraldine here Friday night.

The game was an exciting one from start to finish. Geraldine's Tim Colquitt opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return and an early score to put the Bulldogs up 7-0 with Tom Boman's PAT good.

Crossville took the ball at their 25. Chuck Wade's first carry was for one yard. His second, was for 74 yards and a TD. He then booted the extra point to knot things up a 7-7 at the 10:30 mark of the 1st quarter.

The Bulldogs answered with 5:13 to play in the half when Greg Yarbrough picked up a fumble and raced 49 yards and a score. Colquitt ran in a try for two and the Geraldine would enjoy a 15-7 halftime lead.

Behind the running of Wade and John Fussell, the Lions  marched 63 yards to score when Shirey hit Davis for an 18-yard TD. The try for two was no good and Crossville closed the gap to 15-13 with 4:13 to go in the 3rd quarter.

With just 2:10 to go in the game and the Lions trailing by two, they took the ball on their 20-yard line. With passes from Shirey to Fussell, and two completions to Neal Campbell, the Lions' Shirey threw to Davis, who fought off a defender to fall into the end zone and a score with Wade's PAT closing the score at 20-15.

Davis would ice the game with an interception right after the ensuing kickoff.

For Crossville- Chuck Wade 113 yards on 13 carries. John Fussell added 96 yards on 21 carries.
