CROSSVILLE CLIPS IDER 21-7

Ider- Crossville took advantage of two Ider miscues in the second period and turned them into six pointers to pave the way for the Lions 21-7 victory over the Hornets in both team's season opener last night.

Early in the second quarter the Ider defense forced Crossville into a punting situation, but fumbled the ensuing kick on the 12-yard mark.

With first and ten at the 12, the winners rammed leather to the 7. Quarterback David Kidd tool the oval from that point on a roll out and rambled into the end zone for the Lions' first score. Terry Hinton toed the extra point through the uprights and gave the visitors a 7-0 lead.

Soon after receiving the kick-off, the Hornets once again let the pigskin get away. This time End Don Fowler came up with it for the Lions at the Ider 45-yard line.

The visitors marched to the five where fullback Wayne Griffin pushed across to up the margin to 13-0. Hinton's kick was once again perfect giving the Crossville lads a 14-0 halftime lead as the teams trudged to the dressing room.

Roy Fulmer's lads opened the scoring again late in the third period. Moving on a sustained drive from their own 30, the Lions added seven more points on the scoreboard. This time Kidd fired a 35-yard pass to Hinton who took it the rest of the way. Hinton's kick was true and the score read 21-0 at the end of 3 frames.

Ider's only score came in the 4th stanza after guard Alvis Justice fell on a Crossville fumble at their 45. Quarterback Larry Downer lofted the oval to Bartley Stone from the 17-yard mark for the score. Phillip Moore closed out the scoring with his PAT.
