Guntersville Gleam and Democrat Nov. 15, 1944
Crossville displayed the best running attack the Wildcats have faced all season, as well
as a smooth passing game. Crossville had pointed for this game and according to it's
coach, Bill Isbell, played the best game of any team that he has coached.
Crossville received the opening kickoff, which was short, and ran it back to their 40
yard line where they started a drive led by Heaton and Shipp that carried the ball
inside the Guntersville 20 before the Wildcat line stiffended and took over on downs.
M.C.H.S. quick kicked again Crossville drove deep into Guntersville territory before
losing the ball when a fourth down pass fell incompleted. Marshall was soon forced to
kick and Crossville launched a drive from near midfield that carried across the goal
early in the second quarter.
Crossville kicked out of bounds to keep Capt. Bob Roberts from returning. A minute
later Roberts took the ball on his own 45, shook off two tacklers behind the line,
swung wide to his right and raced 55 yards down the sideline fo r a score.
Crossville received and began a drive from their 40. A long pass from Heaton to
Dover, right end, covered most of the distance and put the ball on the 8 yard line.
Crossville scored on fourth down and two to go.
In the third quarter Crossville scored again on a pass to Dover that covered 30 yards.
The final score came late in the fourth quarter when Jones took a short pass, shook off
2 tacklers and ran 22 yards to score. The game ended soon after.
For Crossville, Heaton and Jones in the backfield and Dover and Brown in the line
were outstanding.
